The Workshop Rotational Model First Presbyterian Church is exploring a new model for the elementary Sunday School classes starting in September 1998 called the Workshop Rotational Model. This model provides opportunities for children to experience the meaning of God's word through active participation. It is known that children learn through a variety of learning styles and possess multiple intelligences (research defines at least seven), through which come knowledge, understanding, and real learning. For truth to become an intrinsic part of a person's life, it needs to be experienced. The rotational model teaches to different intelligences through a "workshop rotation" structure. Children rotate each week into a different multi-media workshop, studying the Bible story for several weeks. Experiences in each workshop fully engage students into the learning process. Workshops may include a Creative Art room, Audio/Video room, Puppetry/Drama room, Bible Skills and Game room, Music Room, Bible Computer Center, and others. Teachers stay in there workshop teaching the same lesson each week to a different group. There seem to be few limits on creativity with this model. Imagine storytelling done in a boat on the Sea of Galilee, music in Solomon's Courtyard, or drama in Abraham's Bedouin Tent! Look for more information on a later date. |
